Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 children from a poor family children that would be raised with them eventually. Porter Wagoner, a syndicated TV show host at the time, was in search for a girl to sing for his show. Parton got her first gig in 1967 she signed with RCA Records by 1968, she joined the Grand Ole Opry. But she resigned from the show in 1974, as her own songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were charting collaborations with them.
